In an effort to reduce crime, enhance safety, and contribute to a vibrant urban environment, our Electrical section has been working tirelessly to deliver. Mr B. Ndlovu, the Electrician indicated that there were quite a number of factors affecting service delivery on their part. For street lights, challenges faced were: theft of cables which left the Local Authority with no option but to start installing lights from scratch. Procurement of electricity lights had been done and were ready for installation. This was a major setback as they could not utilize those fittings and had to find a different, feasible route. Thankfully, solar streetlights came to the rescue as they do not need spaghetti cables to function. The second major challenge is the current spacing of electrical poles which makes it hard to install lights that properly cover the required radius to be illuminated. For tower lights:  the Electrician pointed out that, they used to install high-consuming flood lights and they were phased out by ZERA which left them without spares to repair but to replace the lights with modernized ones, a struggle we are now overcoming hoping very soon the whole town will be illuminated. This will be a major contribution towards the reduction of the crime rate and also a plus as we no longer require electricity for the lights to function.
